W. Eugene Smith was born December 30th, 1918 in Wichita Kansas, he was a
photojournalist for, multiple newspapers and Life Magazine before
entering World War II. Smith was on the front lines in Japan where he
took several photos of U.S. Marines and captured Japanese soldiers.
Smith was on deadly islands like Saipan, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Smith
was hit by a mortar in Okinawa, but he survived, and continued his work
at Life Magazine. Smith went on to do other things like publicizing
Minamate disease, but Smith is best known for his vivid pictures in
World War II.
