Lenses and Photography Vocabulary
I would use a telephoto lens to takes pictures of things that are far away, because with a telephoto lens you can zoom in much further than than you can with a prime or wide angle lens.
I would use a prime lens to take pictures in low light, with the low f-stop you are able to allow more light into the lens.
I would use a wide angle lens to takes pictures of things that are horizontal, for example you could take pictures of maybe graffiti on a wall, or maybe you want to take a picture of a lot of people standing in a line. There are many ideal examples for the use of a wide angle lens.
Depth of Field (shallow and wide) shallow- not much in focus, wide- a lot in focus
Light (angle and intensity)- angle (where the light is coming from) intensity (how bright the light is)
Shadows- the absence of light
Diffusion- decreasing intensity of a light, softening the light
Exposure- what your picture actually looks like, too light, too dark, or in between
Aperture (f-stop) - inside the lens, how big the opening is (how blurry the b/g is)
smaller number, bigger opening, more light
Shutter speed - the mirror inside the camera, how fast it open/closes (for fast moving pictures)
ISO- sensor inside the camera, how sensitive the sensor is to lite (how much detail you want to show)
higher ISO, more grain
